“Mum just smiled at her. She never sticks to any of the rules. My mum’s Tracy Beaker.”

Synopsis:
“Jess and Tracy Beaker are the perfect team. They do everything together. Jess thinks Tracy is the best mum ever, even when she shouts at her teachers! Tracy has made the perfect home for Jess, leaving The Dumping Ground far behind her.
Yes, their flat’s a bit mouldy. It’s only just big enough for two. And the Duke Estate is a bit scary. But it’s their happy home. Until Sean Godfrey, Tracy’s rich boyfriend, whisks them away to his mansion, life of fast cars and celebrity stardom. Will Jess’s brilliant mum turn into a new person altogether? And will Tracy realise that her childhood dream might not be what she needs after all?”

My Review:
Such a cute book! I was worried that I wouldn’t have the same appreciation of Jaqueline Wilson at 22 compared to when I was 12. However, it only took me a few pages to be completely invested in her story. The plot was fun and quick paced with familiar faces such as Cam and Justine Littlewood making appearances. I loved how the book addresses real issues that many young children go through.Primarily, Jess Beaker’s mixed feelings about her mum’s new relationship. My only criticism was how the relationship transpired (I won’t give spoilers but If you’ve read it you should know what I mean) I didn’t find it at all realistic, and it only seemed to happen to serve a rushed final few chapters.
That said, I loved how nostalgic this book made me feel for my childhood and I was glad to catch up with how Tracey Beaker got on in her life. The story is from Jess’s perspective and I did really like her, but sometimes found her unreasonable (which was understandable). I’m so glad to have picked this book up as the world is so familiar that I felt I was visiting an old friend. I have to really compliment Jaqueline Wilson on her ability to perfectly modernize a childhood classic.

To Conclude:
Anyone who read and enjoyed the Tracey Beaker books/show as a kid should definitely go and read this heart-warmer of a novel, a great read for any fan of Jaqueline Wilson.
Happy Reading Friends!
My Rating: 4/5

I haven’t read this series before and I don’t read middle grade much now, but it sounds like a cute, fun read for my younger cousins. Thanks for sharing your review! 🙂
