Bookshop Visit-Haul: Compass Books

My first bookshop visit in a while has taken me to Dartmouth in Devon. Here I came across the second-hand bookstore “Compass Books”. The shop is situated right by the estuary where a plaque commemorates the famed ship the Mayflower, leaving from the port to America.

Upon entering the door I could tell it was exactly my kind of book store, basically its chaos.

It’s quite a small store but it had a wide selection of fiction and various non-fiction. The owner was a great character, a little bit eccentric and undeniably lovely and she kindly allowed me to take some photos within the shop (and you get a free sweet once you’ve bought a book).

Compass books also had a wonderful array or paper crafts and bookmarks. I picked up two books from there both of which came to a total of just £3!

The first book I picked up is the much raved about ” The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. This has been on my TBR for a long time so I’m glad to have found it so inexpensively.

The Next book I chose is ” H for Hawk” by Helen Macdonald. I remember seeing this book everywhere a couple of years ago and being madly into nature myself I think I will enjoy this one.

So that’s it for my visit to Compass Books in Dartmouth, It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in Devon!

  1. It looks lovely! Sadly I’m not in Devon very much but will make a point of going there when I am… There’s just something about a chaotic bookshop with an eccentric owner (Black Books, anyone?)
