Popular Books I Haven’t Read…

I’m going to prepare myself for some serious gasps and shouts of “how could you!” with this list! Keep reading to see some popular books I’ve not read yet and whether I ever plan to read them…

1.The Harry Potter Series by J.K.Rowling

I know… I know… I don’t know how this happened either. To add insult to injury I’ve never even watched the movies. I have lived a Harry Potter free life and I feel like its too late for me now. Will I ever read this series? I think the answer is no, the charm of this series for most people is the impact it had on their childhood and at 22, I won’t have that same experience. I know this is a controversial opinion but I do think this series has been done to death with numerous spin off films, books and Primark socks.

2. The Fault in our Stars by John Green

I feel like everyone and their mother read this book when the film came out. I’m sure its a beautiful story but in never really appealed to me. Will I read it in the future? I don’t think I’ll get to this one but I wont rule it out. It’s just not a priority to read.

3. The Chronicles of Narnia Series by C.S Lewis

I absolutely loved the films growing up so I’m surprised I never read the books! Especially when magical Turkish delight is involved. Will I Read them? I will definitely get around to reading these sometime in the future, they’re such classics in children’s literature and I do feel like i’m missing out by not reading them.

4. The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer

Now I did the watch the movies of these and to be completely honest I really enjoyed them. However, I somehow never got around to the books. As much as everyone bashes this series it definitely represents a significant time in pop culture. Ah I can see it now, the high school arguments about Jacob and Edwards and the hysteria over the release of a new film. Will I read it? I’m going to go with a definite maybe on this one, I am curious to see what the the hype/criticism and obsession is all about and they’ll definitely be in the library so I wouldn’t have to invest money into reading them.

50 Shades of Grey by E.L.James

From the real twilight to the twilight fan fiction. 50 Shades was that book that everyone was reading. But, I saw so many articles and posts about the shite writing and questionable plot that I never picked it up. Will I ever read it? This is one of the books I’m going to have to give a hard pass, it doesn’t really appeal to me and if I wanted to read a crap fan fiction of twilight I’d make like my 12 year old self and revisit Wattpad.

Apart of that, I haven’t read any of the others and don’t plan to ! Though i’ve seen the Harry Potter movies up to the 5th one, I do also think it’s kinda over-done by now .. even though im playing the mobile game of it right now, ahaha

  3. I actually read all of these, but mostly because I had to (50 shades because of my job in a bookstore), or twilight and others because they were so popular and were all everyone talked about and I sometimes felt like an outsider because I couldn’t join in the conversations. Honestly, if I had the chance to go back in time, the only books I would read is probably the HP series.. and that’s only because it’s magic and I’d be around 10 again. If they came out now maybe because of the hype? But all the other books probably not.

There are still a lot of popular books I haven’t read, but most of those aren’t because I don’t want to, it’s just because I haven’t gotten to them yet :’)

  4. I haven’t read Narnia either and don’t plan to, and I might hate-read 50 Shades for fun if I’m ever really, really, bored. I don’t think reading popular books is necessary if you don’t want to, better to read books you actually want to read!

  5. Oh I love Narnia! But yeah I’ve never read Harry Potter or seen any of the movies either. I wasn’t allowed to when I was little, but I never really cared anyway? Now that I’m an adult now I’m kind of curious, but I know I won’t have any sentimental connections to it and I’ve been spoiled for everything on the internet anyway. But I kinda want to read it now so I can actually be in a fandom again and have all the cool stuff and get all the references I hear everywhere! But then I realize that’s kind of a stupid reason to want to read a series if that’s really my only reason. I’d feel like I’d just be giving into peer pressure and not actually reading it because I want to. Idk I’m conflicted now. XD

  6. A kindred spirit! I actually didn’t read Harry Potter and The Fault in Our Stars until five years ago… when I was 30 years old. Which shocked everyone I knew but I just hadn’t read it in my little classics bubble! I have read Twilight though to see if the writing was as bad as everyone said (it is) and I have no interest in 50 Shades. Great post!
