Book Review: The Familiars by Stacey Halls

This is the best book I've read so far this year! Wow, I’ve never read a book like this, I found it so wonderfully original and interesting. It was well paced for its style (slower than a thriller, quicker than a Dickens novel). For me what made this story so wonderful is the people and the friendships. Book Review: The Tattooist of Auschwitz

he Story of Lale Sokolov is sadly not based on fiction, so I cannot in any capacity critique the story, only the storytelling. I was amazed by Lale’s ability to survive and the way he put himself at risk to take care of others. This story showed how even in the worst imaginable conditions hope could be found, friendships could be made and lives can be saved. The love story was of course very special and beautiful especially as its true. However, I didn't find myself emotionally affected until the authors note where we learn what happened to Lale and Gita after the war.

Book Review: My Mum Tracey Beaker

Such a cute book! I was worried that I wouldn’t have the same appreciation of Jaqueline Wilson at 22 compared to when I was 12. However, it only took me a few pages to be completely invested in her story. The plot was fun and quick paced with familiar faces such as Cam and Justine Littlewood making appearances. I loved how the book addresses real issues that many young children go through.Primarily, Jess Beaker’s mixed feelings about her mum's new relationship.
